CuentaRUT from BancoEstado is one of the easiest payment options on AliExpress. In today’s article we’re going to explain how to use it to pay on AliExpress, an online shopping site of Chinese origin where you can find thousands of very cheap, high quality products.
What is the CuentaRUT?
I imagine when you’re here you already know what it is, but it doesn’t hurt to remember it. It is a current account that is very easy to get and allows you to manage your money easily and securely. You can use this account to deposit, transfer or withdraw money and, thanks to the magnetic card, you can even pay with affiliated companies. Its main advantage is that it is very easy to get as it has no opening or maintenance costs, nor do you have to meet income requirements or business documents to open it, in short, anyone can have a RUT account.
The big downside, however, is that it is a very limited account: it does not allow you to use credit or debit cards, its main purpose is to deposit your money and make transfers or payments. As you know, the best way to pay at AliExpress is with your credit or debit card, and your RUT account is the best way to pay at AliExpress, but not directly.
How to pay on AliExpress with your CuentaRUT
In short, all you need to buy from AliExpress is a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or American Express credit or debit card. A bank account that offers a credit card would be ideal, but sometimes the process is very complicated, especially due to income or seniority requirements. The solution is to purchase a virtual card. This type of card offers the same advantages as traditional cards, but does not require as many requirements as it works with prepayment: to buy something, we need to transfer money from our account before paying.
So far, Neteller has been the best solution to Create Virtual cards using our RUT account, but a few months ago the virtual card service was phased out for all of Latin America, including Chile, so only users with an active card can use it. Worse, the new customers cannot create a new card. Don’t worry, there are other companies that offer virtual cards in Chile. One of the easiest to get and use is the new Finciero card, although others like ecopayz or payeer also exist.
Financially: pros and cons
Finciero is a Chilean company that offers virtual prepaid credit cards that can be topped up by electronic transfer through our RUT account. It is very easy to obtain (however, due to the high demand, when you access the website you may find that it is temporarily out of stock). As you will see on the website, this card is specially designed to be purchased from online stores such as AliExpress.
The downsides to their cards are that, like all cards in this class, they charge $ 1 for monthly maintenance, $ 1400 or 4.5% of the charge and 2.9% for currency conversion.
However, recently Mastercard reported that Finciero is not recognized by them and is under investigation by SBIF and BC for not having the appropriate permits to operate in the national financial market. We are currently no longer seeing the MasterCard image on the Finciero website, but we have to see what happens in the future. At the moment we know that many people have been able to shop without any problems thanks to their card.
I still have my Neteller Card Active, How do I top it up?
If you still have your active Neteller card and would like to shop on AliExpress, you can top up it via dolardolar.com. This allows you to buy dollars and transfer them to your Neteller account. All you need to do is make a transfer through their page, you can do it with your CuentaRUT for free.
Other alternatives: Retail Cards
As you can see, your RUT account can be used to pay on AliExpress, although there aren’t too many options at the moment. The best thing is still to have a bank card, but if you can’t have it, there is an alternative: retail cards, cards that are affiliated with companies like Visa and Mastercard that allow you to use them worldwide that allow you to travel abroad buy without commission. The most popular are the Falabella Visa CMR and the Ripley Mastercard. However, you still have some requirements, much more than those of the RUT account.
Mach card: the Best alternative to CuentaRut
In recent years, the Mach card has become the best alternative to the CuentaRut, it is a virtual card that works like a debit card and is not tied to any bank. If you don’t want ties or want to pay cash on a credit card, we recommend this option. For more information, see our guide to Pay by Mach Card on AliExpress.
Our opinion on Paying with a Rut Account on AliExpress
In short, when you start shopping on AliExpress, virtual cards can be of great help, although we have to pay more commissions than bank cards, but these are more difficult to come by. So, they can be a great alternative to them. If you want more information about the payment methods that AliExpress accepts, here is the information that the page itself provides. However, we also recommend our final guide to making payments on AliExpress.
